Utah VINE is the state custody-information and notification service reached through VINELink. The Utah Department of Corrections notification page says it provides automated information at all hours by phone or online. For a named person, a caller or online user can learn whether the person is in custody and whether a release date exists. UDC describes Utah VINE as covering prisons and jails. The research did not find a facility-by-facility participation list, so Sevier County Jail coverage should be confirmed in the live system before an alert is treated as available for that booking.
That distinction matters in Piute County. Piute has no county jail. The Piute County Sheriff's Office may make an arrest, while Sevier County Jail or another identified facility holds the person. Utah VINE must be searched against the actual custodian. A state prisoner, including a UDC prisoner placed in a county jail, follows the UDC path. A person held only on a local case follows the holding jail's path. Federal Bureau of Prisons and ICE custody are outside this Utah VINE workflow.
Search Piute County VINELink Records
Open the official VINELink service and work from facts already known about the person. A UDC offender number is the strongest search key for a state case. A full name can also work, but common names need a second identifier. Piute case details, date of birth, aliases, and the actual holding facility help prevent a wrong match. Never rely on the name alone.

- Compare identity details, agency, facility, and any number shown with known records.

If the person was arrested by Piute officers but does not appear under an expected jail, ask the Piute County Sheriff's Office which agency accepted the booking. For sentenced Piute jail cases, official state material points to Sevier County Jail, yet that statement should not be stretched to every temporary hold or transport. The actual booking location controls which local record can prove release.

A current result can answer a narrow question. It is not a full history. VINE is not an archive, and registration does not ensure that a fully discharged person remains searchable. Register Piute County Release Notices
Registration begins only after the correct person has been found. Depending on what VINELink offers for that record, notice may arrive by text, app, email, or telephone. Phone registration uses a personal identification number, or PIN, to confirm receipt. Choose a number that reaches the intended person directly. More than one telephone number can share the same PIN. When an automated call arrives, entering the correct PIN confirms receipt and stops repeat calls. UDC says unconfirmed calls can recur each hour for up to forty-eight hours, while a missed call may lead to another call within two hours. If the PIN is lost, call the VINE number and use an operator rather than guessing through an alert. The automated Utah VINE line is 1-877-884-8463. It is available around the clock, and UDC describes live English and Spanish operator help. A phone registration is tied to the selected person and contact channel, not to every Piute County arrest. If the holding jail cannot be found in the live service, call the jail rather than registering against a similar name or an unrelated state-prison record.

Read Piute County Custody Events
Not every alert means the same thing. UDC lists prison release, escape, return from escape, death, a parole release date notice, moves to a county jail, movement between the Salt Lake and Gunnison prison sites, and movement to a community correctional center. Some are physical moves within custody. Others reflect release from prison into supervision. The event text determines the next call.

A person can vanish from Sevier's current inmate search and trigger a movement event because UDC transported that person for state processing. Another person may leave Sevier under an ICE or federal transfer that VINE does not fully explain. Ask, "released to whom?" before planning travel, pickup, or a court response.
Verify Piute County Release Alerts
UDC says VINE should not be the only source used for protection or custody decisions. The Utah Board of Pardons and Parole also warns that technical issues can make VINELink notices inaccurate or missing. After a county-jail alert, call the actual jail and request the release or transfer event, its time, authority, and destination. After a state-prison alert, compare the UDC legal status and the final Board order. A parole date alert is advance notice, not proof that the person walked out. The Board gives 801-261-6464 for search help and verified Board status. That number is relevant when an alert concerns parole, rescission, termination, or another Board-controlled event. A jail employee cannot interpret a Board order for a state sentence, just as the Board does not create Sevier's booking timestamp.
For a Piute arrest, confirm the holding custodian first. Sevier County Jail can speak to a Sevier booking. Piute Sheriff can speak to its arrest and transport records. UDC and the Board control state sentence and parole information. Each source answers a different part of the event. A narrow GRAMA request can secure an existing jail release or transfer record when a document is needed.
What if VINELink shows no result? Check spelling and identifiers, then determine whether the case was county, state, federal, or immigration custody. A fully discharged person may no longer appear. A county-only detainee may never enter UDC, and federal custody must be checked through the federal system.
Note: A release date, alert, or missing roster entry is weaker than the later record made by the agency that held the person.
Piute County VINELink Limits
VINELink does not replace the Bureau of Prisons locator, ICE detainee locator, or federal court record. A BOP record may retain a federal release date. ICE has its own locator and limited recent-release window. Neither proves a release from Sevier County Jail. Likewise, a U.S. Marshals movement can remove someone from a local jail without placing the person in a sentenced BOP record at once.
Data can lag, names can be entered differently, and a jail may not offer every event or delivery channel. Utah's service does not promise a complete historic record. It also cannot explain the legal basis for an event as fully as the court file or Board order. Use the notice for prompt awareness, then go to the office that created the custody record.
The safe sequence is short: identify the custodian, match the person, read the event, and confirm it at the source. That method respects the limits of Piute County VINELink release information while preserving the speed that makes an alert useful.
