Understanding Piute County Releases
Piute County released inmates begin with an unusual fact: Piute County has no jail. The Utah Department of Corrections jail inventory reports no local jail beds and says people sentenced to a Piute County jail term are transported to Sevier County Jail. Piute County Sheriff's Office can hold the arrest and transport record, while the housing jail holds the booking and physical release entry. Those are separate records.
“Released” also has more than one meaning. It may reflect bond, release on conditions, dismissal, time served, completion of a definite jail term, parole from state prison, or the end of probation. A movement to UDC, ICE, another jail, or another authority is a transfer. That person remains in custody. A reliable Piute County release search therefore identifies both the event and the next custodian.
- Time served
- A court-authorized release after the required jail term and applicable credit have been satisfied.
- Parole
- Release from prison into community supervision before the sentence fully ends.
- Probation
- Community supervision ordered by a court, sometimes after time in a county jail.
- Discharge
- The end of corrections jurisdiction, rather than merely leaving a prison building.
Piute County Release Types
The record's release authority is as important as its date. A booking can close without the person entering the community. Read the release reason, destination, and court order together before deciding what occurred.
| Event | Meaning | Next record |
|---|---|---|
| Bond or conditions | The person leaves jail under a court-approved basis. | Housing-jail release entry and Piute court order |
| Time served | A definite local term ends after recorded credits and orders. | Jail calculation, release entry, and judgment |
| Parole | A state prisoner enters supervised community status. | Board order, UDC legal status, and release record |
| Dismissal or court order | The legal authority for custody changes. | Court docket plus the jail's actual departure time |
| Transfer | Custody continues with UDC, ICE, or another jail. | Sending record and receiving-agency locator |
A death in custody may also close a booking record, but it is not a release. A program placement can be community based or custodial depending on the order. Use the precise label from the agency instead of compressing every exit into “released.”
Piute County Release Record Fields
The most useful county record ties a known booking to the moment a person left the housing jail. Sevier has not published a verified public field list, so the items below are a request checklist, not a promise about its online interface. Ask for existing fields and records rather than asking staff to create a report or reach a conclusion.
| Field | What it establishes |
|---|---|
| Full name, aliases, and date of birth | Identity and protection against a namesake match |
| Arresting agency and arrest date | The Piute event connected to the booking |
| Booking number and admission time | The exact housing-jail episode |
| Release timestamp | When the person physically left that facility |
| Release authority or reason | Bond, court order, sentence completion, or another basis |
| Destination or receiving agency | Whether departure was community release or continued custody |
| Court and case number | The docket that can confirm legal authority |
| Booking photograph | A separately identified image, subject to classification and redaction |
For state custody, UDC public information can include legal status, offender number, housing, offense and sentence facts, a Board hearing date, parole or expiration information, commitment and court details, and a prison photograph. UDC policy also identifies a parole or discharge date as public offender information. A county booking photo and a UDC prison photo are different records.
Request Piute County Release Records
Utah's Government Records Access and Management Act, or GRAMA, provides the request framework. The key is sending each part to the office that keeps it. Piute County is the likely custodian for its arrest and transport record. Sevier County is the likely custodian for a booking and release created at Sevier County Jail. UDC keeps state-prison and supervision records.
- Confirm the housing agency with Piute County Sheriff. Give the person's full name, known aliases, birth date, arrest date, and case number if known.
- Ask the housing jail for the existing booking, admission, release or transfer entry, release authority, receiving agency, and separately identified booking photo.
- Send Piute County a separate request for its arrest and transport record when that part is needed.
- Cite a narrow date range. Ask for segregable public portions if a record includes protected details.
- Keep the response. If access is denied, follow the entity's GRAMA appeal instructions.
Utah Code §63G-2-203 permits certain actual-cost fees and includes waiver provisions. No flat Piute or Sevier release-record fee was verified, so confirm cost before ordering. Section 63G-2-204 contains response rules that vary with the request and circumstances; it should not be turned into a universal delivery promise.

Piute Release Records Under GRAMA
GRAMA, Utah Code Title 63G Chapter 2, classifies records rather than making every fact about an arrest automatically visible online. Public release facts can sit beside protected investigative details, private identifiers, medical facts, victim information, security procedures, juvenile material, and sealed records. A custodian may redact those parts while releasing a public portion.
Neither Piute nor Sevier published a verified online retention window. An agency record may remain after a name leaves a live interface. Utah expungement can later change public court access, and sealed material will not appear like an ordinary public case. That makes a missing online result uncertain rather than proof that no Piute County booking or release occurred.
Why Piute Discharge Dates Matter
Utah calculates many expungement waiting periods from the latest of conviction or release from incarceration, parole, or probation. The exact discharge event can matter long after a jail roster changes. Utah Code §77-40a-303 supplies the governing waiting-period framework, while Utah Courts explains the filing process.
An expunged result can leave no ordinary public Xchange entry. It does not follow that the original booking never existed. When a date is needed for a legal process, identify the correct jail, court, UDC, or Board record and use the authorized request route.
Search Piute County Released Inmates
A Piute County released inmate search is a chain of checks because arresting agency, housing jail, court, and post-release agency can differ. Start with identity and custody location, then obtain the event record.
- Search the Piute court case by name or case number and determine whether district or justice jurisdiction applies.
- Call Piute County Sheriff and ask which facility accepted the person. Do not search for a nonexistent Piute County Jail.
- If Sevier housed the person, check the Sevier current inmate search. A current match supports current listing; no match proves nothing alone.
- Ask the housing jail whether the event was community release or transfer, and request the recorded date, authority, and destination.
- For a UDC case, use the state offender search and Board decision. For federal or ICE custody, follow the receiving system.
- Request the release record when documentary confirmation is needed.
The Released Last 24 Hours path explains the same-day records workflow. It does not supply a fabricated feed.
UDC Search for Piute Releases
The UDC Offender Search is limited to people currently under UDC supervision. It can include current incarceration, probation, and parole. It does not cover an unsentenced person held only in county jail, and it does not promise a historic result for someone fully discharged.
| Search input | Use | Limit |
|---|---|---|
| UDC identification number | Best match when known | Applies to a UDC record, not a county-only booking |
| First and last name | At least one letter of each is accepted | Namesakes require more comparison |
| Middle name or aliases | Helps separate similar names | Not every variation is guaranteed |
| DOB, legal status, case, location | Corroborates the selected person | The displayed subset may differ |
The official UDC page shows the search fields and current-supervision scope. Its interface can be reviewed at the source before searching.
A “parolee” is outside prison but still supervised. A probationer is also in the community, though probation comes from a court order. Prison housing means the person remains confined. No result may reflect a county-only case, a mismatch, or completed discharge.
Search Both Piute Release Courts
Piute's district and justice functions are compact and have historically been co-located, but jurisdiction still controls the record. District court handles felonies and class A misdemeanors. Justice court generally handles lower misdemeanor and infraction matters. When the level is unknown, search both rather than treating a blank result in one as the end of the inquiry.
The Sixth District Court Piute location identifies the Junction court. Utah Xchange can show parties, filed entries, hearings, judgments, and completed-case outcomes, subject to access rules. A court order proves legal authority, while the housing jail's release entry is stronger evidence of when the person physically left.
Piute Release Supervision in Richfield
The Utah Board of Pardons and Parole makes prison parole decisions. UDC Adult Probation & Parole supervises Board parole and felony probation. Piute County is served by Region 4 Richfield, outside the county. A person may leave state prison in Salt Lake City, live in Piute County, and report in Richfield. Those three locations describe different parts of the same release path.
Verify current status in the UDC search, then locate the Board order when parole from prison is involved. The Piute County Parole / Probation page distinguishes each source. Region 4 can route legitimate supervision questions but may withhold protected case-management facts.
Documents After a Piute Release
UDC reentry material discusses help with vital records such as birth certificates and Social Security documents. The nearby Richfield Satellite Treatment Resource Center provides substance-use education for the region. These are navigation points, not promises of admission or service.
UDC also provides a route to request or correct public offender information, including legal status and release-related dates. A person who finds an incorrect official field should use the originating agency's correction or records channel. Changing a private copy does not change the official source.
Piute State Prison Release Day
UDC Release Day guidance describes a distinct state-prison process. Releases and paroles are generally processed on Tuesdays, with most people routed through Utah State Correctional Facility. UDC gives different arrival guidance for USCF or CUCF releases and people housed in a county jail under the state placement program.
People without rides may be taken to a nearby UTA TRAX station and released later in the process. Those entering a community correctional center are transported by UDC. None of these state procedures establishes an ordinary Sevier County Jail release hour, door, or pickup rule. A Piute case may enter either system, so confirm legal custody before making travel plans.
Getting Home After Piute Release
A central Utah regional transportation plan reports no fixed public-route transportation across the region, while noting community services and possible taxi or rideshare options. It does not verify a stop or release ride at Sevier County Jail. Distance makes a premature trip costly.
Before traveling, call the custodial facility, confirm that physical release has occurred, ask where pickup is allowed, and arrange a specific ride. A planned date, VINE alert, or roster disappearance should be corroborated first. State-prison transportation guidance must not be assumed to apply to a Sevier county-jail discharge.
Why Piute Has No Release Roster
Piute's no-jail status is the core facility fact. A historical Garfield County plan referred to emergency service for Piute, but that old reference does not prove present placement. Later official UDC material directs sentenced Piute jail cases to Sevier. For an individual arrest, Piute Sheriff must still identify the facility that accepted the booking.
This history explains why older pages may point toward Panguitch while current official material points toward Richfield. Garfield County Jail should be contacted only when the arresting agency or case record identifies it. The source closest to the actual booking controls.
Piute Release Alerts and Federal Custody
Utah VINE through VINELink can support a specific-person custody check and release notification. UDC documents alerts for release, transfer, escape, return, death, a parole date, and certain state movements. VINE is an alert service, not a certified archive. The Board has warned that notifications can be inaccurate or missing, so confirm a jail alert with the jail and a prison alert with UDC or the Board.
For a federal conviction, the BOP Inmate Locator may retain a “Released” result and federal release date. It says nothing about a Utah county-jail release. The ICE detainee locator is relevant only when immigration custody is known or the jail identifies ICE as the receiving agency. Leaving Sevier for ICE is continued civil detention, not release to the community.
Where Piute Release Status Appears
Each official channel answers a narrower question. Using the wrong one creates false negatives and false release claims.
| Channel | What it can show | What absence means |
|---|---|---|
| Sevier current inmate search | Current county listing | Release, transfer, lag, or mismatch are all possible |
| Housing-jail release record | Actual exit time, authority, and destination if maintained | Ask the correct custodian and use a narrow request |
| UDC offender search | Current prison, parole, or felony probation status | County-only case or full discharge may be absent |
| Board order | Parole, rehearing, rescission, or termination decision | A blank recent search may precede publication |
| Utah court record | Order, judgment, sentence, and disposition | Sealing, expungement, or wrong jurisdiction may apply |
| BOP or ICE locator | Federal prison or immigration custody path | Neither covers a routine county release |
Piute Release Facilities and Systems
Sevier County Jail is the principal serving jail for sentenced Piute cases, but the full map includes arrest, prison, supervision, federal, and immigration systems. Each page below follows the correct release-record route for that facility or agency.
- Sevier County Jail, the principal serving county jail for sentenced Piute cases.
- Piute County Sheriff's Office, the arrest and transport starting point, not a jail.
- Garfield County Jail, used only when present case facts confirm placement.
- Utah State Correctional Facility and Central Utah Correctional Facility, both state-custody routes.
- UDC county-jail Inmate Placement Program, where physical jail location and state legal custody can differ.
- UDC Adult Probation & Parole, Region 4 Richfield, the Piute supervision office.
- Federal Bureau of Prisons system and ICE detention system, which apply only to their own custody paths.
Always ask which agency actually booked, housed, released, or received the person. That answer determines the record with the greatest weight.
