CUCF Release Route to USCF

CUCF houses state prisoners in Gunnison. It is the closest major state prison serving central Utah, but proximity does not make it a Piute county facility. UDC says a person housed at CUCF generally travels to USCF for state release processing. The movement between the two prisons does not mean the person has entered the community.

After processing, a person may parole to the community, move to a community correctional center, reach sentence expiration, or follow another authorized path. UDC transports those paroling to a community correctional center. People without arranged rides may be taken from USCF to a nearby UTA TRAX station and are released later in the process. These state logistics differ from an ordinary Sevier jail release.

UDC's official Release Day instructions describe Tuesday processing and tell people attending a USCF or CUCF release to arrive at the release building at 9 a.m. The release building is at USCF. A person housed in Gunnison generally travels north within UDC custody before the public release event.

A release may occur later than an expected arrival. People without rides are released last and may receive transport to a nearby TRAX station. UDC transports people whose parole plan calls for a community correctional center. Families should verify the person's current date, approved destination, and the latest facility instructions. These details do not govern county detainees serving an ordinary term at Sevier.

Piute's Facility History Boundary

Piute County has no jail. Current official material sends sentenced Piute jail terms to Sevier, while a felony prison commitment enters UDC and can lead to CUCF. A 1998 Garfield plan mentioned emergency service for Piute. That historical note does not establish a current Garfield placement and has no bearing on whether a named state prisoner is at CUCF.

The local history reinforces a broader point: county of arrest, housing jail, state prison, release-processing building, and supervision office may all differ. A person can be convicted in Piute, housed in Gunnison, processed in Salt Lake City, and supervised from Region 4 Richfield. Track the record from agency to agency rather than treating “Piute release” as one building's event.

CUCF Release Date Limits

The USCF processing event is the physical state-release step. Termination or discharge can occur after time in the community. A clear timeline may contain all four dates without contradiction.
